Overall, Brandon Weeden is a pretty good athlete at the quarterback position. He has the ability to get outside the pocket and make throws now and then and he has some mobility in the pocket. Weeden doesn’t use his mobility as often as he could. He has quick feet, but he doesn’t always use it in the pocket to avoid the rush. Too often, he drifts back and throws off his back foot when he’s under pressure, causing his passes to fall off target. |

Brandon Weeden has prototypical size for the quarterback position. He isn’t quite as strong and difficult to bring down as many quarterbacks his size are, but he is strong enough to get the job done. Weeden didn’t have any durability issues at Oklahoma State, but it has been reported that he tendonitis in his throwing arm during his minor league baseball career. Weeden doesn’t play with any explosiveness as a runner. |

Inconsistent footwork. Has a tendency to keep fading after his initial drop. Taps the ball before he throws it at times, which can give the defense a jump on his passes. |

SUMMARY |
||||||||
|
Brandon Weeden has what it takes to be a very good starting quarterback in the NFL. He possesses all of the physical tools and he can make all of the throws. He throws with excellent velocity to all levels of the field. At times, he makes bad decisions because he trusts his arm strength too much. He has prototypical size for the position. At 28 years old, he is much more mature than most prospects when they’re coming out of college. He is a great leader that his teammates will gravitate to. Weeden’s biggest downfall is that he struggles greatly under pressure, especially when it comes from up the middle. Coming from a spread offense, Weeden is going to need some time to adjust to the NFL game. He is going to have to learn to read defenses pre-snap, do a better job of handling pressure, and he needs to get much better at going through his reads and not locking onto his primary receiver. If Weeden is drafted to the right situation and he learns to do these things well, he has a chance to make a very good NFL career for himself as a starting quarterback. |
